Our Governor Services team recognises the important role school governors have in ensuring and sustaining good or better education provision, care and outcomes for children and young people. We've been working for over 30 years in providing cost effective, high quality services which contribute to raising standards by providing the tools to effectively fulfil governors’ roles and responsibilities.

How we can support you

  • We're an experienced and highly regarded team with knowledge of school governance legislation, its application, and governors’ important role in school improvement
  • Access to a comprehensive administrative clerking service providing a draft termly agenda, legal and procedural advice, the role of clerk to governors, and to a minuting clerk to advise and minute governing body and committee meetings
  • Access to online and face to face training opportunities with knowledgeable and experienced facilitators in order to develop governors’ effectiveness
  • Access to information, advice and publications on the service webpages hosted by Shropshire Learning Gateway.

Our offer

A comprehensive ‘full’ clerking service:

  • Production of a draft agenda for each termly governors meeting to be tailored to meet governors’ needs
  • Issuing the agenda and all supporting documents and reports
  • Attendance at meetings to take minutes and advise on procedural and legal matters
  • Preparation of minutes and maintenance of accurate attendance and membership records
  • Attendance at chair's briefing session
  • Legal and procedural advice acting as the clerk to governors

Draft agenda, briefing and training:

  • Production of a draft agenda for each termly governors meeting
  • Attendance at clerks termly briefing session
  • Attendance at clerks training sessions
  • Attendance at chairs briefing session

Draft agenda:

  • Production of a draft agenda for each termly governors meeting
  • An option to purchase additional service offer in areas of clerks and chairs briefing, training and development.

Reviews of school governance:

  • Reviews of the effectiveness of governance practice are offered through the CPD offer to schools as part of a governing body’s own self-development programme, or in response to an Ofsted recommendation

Training and development:

  • We offer access to online national governor training opportunities and the National Governors’ Association at a discounted rate (full details in the service level agreement and CPD brochure)
  • We provide an extensive, diverse and relevant training programme through central courses and school-based consultancy, including: new governor training, chairs training, sessions covering the full range of roles and responsibilities of governors, e- learning opportunities and clerks training.
