Schools are warned to be extra vigilant after the news over the weekend on the “Wannacry” malware outbreak affecting businesses worldwide and the NHS more locally in the UK.

The attack appears to be manifesting itself on vulnerable Windows machines, especially on devices and networks where security software hasn’t been kept up to date.

Schools are advised to –

  • Ensure that any suspicious emails with attachments are not opened. especially from senders that you are not expecting mail from. Treat with extreme caution.
  • Do not respond to any emails asking you to clean up the threat – contact your IT support provider in the first instance.
  • Ensure your network of Windows based machines are fully patched with Windows updates.
  • Check that your machines have Sophos Anti-Virus installed (or your own security products) and that they are updating correctly.

Please contact your local technical support team if you have any concerns or for advice.

 Any machines that are affected please turn them off and disconnect from the network - Immediately inform the IT services helpdesk on 01743 252200
